Next year, the T20 World Cup will be held in the United States and West Windies. Zimbabwe will play the qualifiers this month to participate in the event. But before that, Zimbabwe has changed the leadership of this short format. Sikandar Raja got the T20 captaincy.
Before Sikandar Raja, Zimbabwe was led by Craig Irvine in all three formats. He will handle the other two formats from now on. The team management also said this in the statement announcing the new captain.
Raja has previously captained Zimbabwe’s T20 team. He led the team in 4 matches and won 2 of them and lost the other 2 matches. In this format, Raja played 71 matches for the country and scored 1 thousand 436 runs, took 42 wickets.
In the first round of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Zimbabwe advanced to the second round from the top of the group. However, they finished the tournament sixth in the group. As a result, he could not directly qualify for the 2024 tournament.
As a result, they now have to play in the qualifiers of the African region. The T20 World Cup will be held in June next year in the West Indies and the United States with a total of 20 teams including the top two teams from this region. The remaining 18 teams of the tournament have already been finalized.
