Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski announced that a prisoner exchange was made between Russia and Ukraine and that 215 Ukrainians, including 108 Azov battalion personnel, were returned.

Describing the exchange as a ‘victory’, Zelenski said: “This is clearly a victory for our state, for our entire society, and most importantly for the 215 families who can see their loved ones in safety.” Noting that among the 215 people, there are Ukrainian National Guard, navy, class guards, police, Ukrainian Security Service personnel and those sentenced to death, Zelenski said, “We will do absolutely everything to save everyone in Russian captivity.”

Emphasizing that the operation has been planned for a long time and the exchange consists of several stages, Zelenski said that in the first stage, 200 Ukrainians were exchanged in exchange for pro-Russian Viktor Medvedchuk, and in the second stage, 5 Azov commanders were exchanged in addition to 200 Ukrainians for 55 people. Zelensky said, “(5 Azov commanders) we gave 55 people who deserve neither pity, sympathy nor any word in return. (55 people) who fought against Ukraine, betrayed Ukraine, we absolutely do not need.”

Zelenski said that Turkey and Ukraine agreed that the 5 commanders in question should be in Turkey under safe conditions and under the special control of the Turkish President, and that he talked to President Erdogan about the issue, and thanked President Erdogan once again. Stating that the commanders are Serhiy Volynskyi, Svyatoslav Palamar, Denys Prokopenko, Oleg Khomenko, Denys Shleha, Zelenski also stated that they will allow the families of the commanders to see them.

Zelenski stated that 10 foreign citizens in Russian captivity were among those who were exchanged, adding, “And of course we helped our friends, it’s a matter of honor for Ukraine. It’s a matter of gratitude for helping our country. We managed to save 10 foreign citizens in Russian captivity. They will return home. “The following people are: 5 UK citizens, 2 US citizens, 1 Moroccan citizen, 1 Swedish citizen, 1 Croatian citizen. The enemy sentenced them to a long prison sentence or to death. We saved their lives,” he said. Zelenski stated that these citizens will return to their homes through Saudi Arabia.

President Erdoğan, who is in New York City, USA as part of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), stated in an interview with PBS television channel a few days ago that he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Uzbekistan and said, “They are actually doing this job now. “I realized that he was trying to finish it as soon as possible. This is going to be a big problem. At this point, for example, an agreement has been reached on the exchange of 200 hostages at the moment. This is a good development. Because with these hostages, a very, very important step has been taken there. At the moment, his technical Friends are also carrying out the dimension. With this, we will have achieved a good development,” he said.
