Zelensky applauds the EU decision to extend the abolition of customs tariffs for another year

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenskyapplauded today the decision adopted this Thursday by the European Council to extend until June 2024 the suspension, for Ukrainian imports, of all customs fees for entry into the European Union.

“I welcome today’s decision of the European Council to extend temporary trade liberalization for Ukraine for another year,” Zelensky said on his Twitter account.

The Ukrainian president called for this suspension of tariffs “become permanent” and that they cease to exist “exceptions or restrictions” to trade between Ukraine and the EU.

“I am grateful to the members of the EU for their support, which brings us closer to accession to the EU,” Zelensky added in his message, referring to Ukraine’s aspirations to start negotiations. accession negotiations this year.

EU trade ministers approved on Thursday to extend the suspension of all customs duties, quotas and trade defense measures on Ukrainian exports to the EU for another year, as a measure to support Ukraine’s economy during the Russian invasion. .
