Playing without Harry Kane, Tottenham did not care about Manchester United. Won by 2-0 goals. On the other hand, the current champions Manchester City got the desired victory. Pep Guardiola’s disciples beat Newcastle United by 1-0.
Spurs played at home for the first time yesterday after the club’s record goalscorer Kane left for Bayern Munich. It is also coach Ange Postecoglou’s first match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Midway through the first half, Bruno Fernandes had a chance to put the visitors ahead. Tottenham could have gone into the break with a lead had Pedro Porro’s shot not hit the crossbar. Sarr made no more mistakes in the 49th minute. It was Surrey’s first goal for the club. Ivan Perissis’ cross failed to catch Ben Davies and Andre Onana was unable to get hold of Martin when he cleared it. As a result, United’s defeat in the 83rd minute was a matter of time. The match ended with a 2-0 goal difference.
On the other hand, Manchester City won 1-0 against Newcastle, a comparatively less powerful team, in the match held at Etihad Stadium. The Citizens dominated possession and attack. Pep Guardiola’s men kept the ball under their control for 60 percent of the entire match. And Newcastle took a total of four shots along the goal. But only one goal was scored. Julian Alvarez scored the only goal.
On the other hand, the footballers of Newcastle United have been able to keep the ball under their control for only 40 percent of the entire match. The players of the visiting team had no edge in attack. Man City managed to take just one total shot on goal. But no goal came.
