Ukrainian Security Service raided the monastery

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) raided the historic Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Orthodox Christian monastery this morning. The SBU stated that the raid was carried out “against the subversive activities of the Russian special services”.

In its statement, SBU stated that they did the raid to prevent the historical monastery from becoming ‘the center of the Russian world’ and that they were conducting some research and investigation in the monastery. The SBU stressed that they carried out the raid as part of its systematic work against the subversive activities of the Russian special services in Ukraine. Stating that the buildings in the monastery were searched for ‘prohibited substances’, the SBU also stated that “controls have been made regarding the illegal activities of persons in Lavra territory in a way that harms the state sovereignty of Ukraine”.
