UEFA confirmed this Wednesday that Türkiye has withdrawn its bid to host Euro 2028so that it leaves the way clear for the United Kingdom and Ireland project to host the continental event in five years.
“Following the announcement on 28 July which revealed the desire of the Italian and Turkish federations to present a joint bid to host EURO 2032, the UEFA administration has written today, Wednesday, to both federations to confirm that your joint candidacy has been duly received and will be submitted for evaluation and consideration by the Executive Committee“said the organization in a statement.
The entity chaired by Aleksander Ceferin pointed out that Turkey’s request to join Italy for the next edition means that “its candidacy to host UEFA EURO 2028 is consequently withdrawn.”
“The awarding of both tournaments still requires the approval of the Executive Committee at its meeting in Nyon on October 10. Presentations at that meeting will be an important part of the process that will take due consideration of the content of bid submissions before making a decision“said UEFA.
