According to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred in the southeast of the Loyalty Islands in New Caledonia, which is an overseas territory of France. The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 37.7 meters.
WARNED TO COME TO HIGH LEVELS
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) has issued a tsunami warning for some coastal areas of Vanuatu, Tonga and Tuvalu, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, Guam and other Pacific islands. The Vanuatu Meteorological Service has warned the public not to venture to higher altitudes.
TSUNAMI WARNING
The Australian Meteorological Service has issued a tsunami warning for Lord Howe Island on the east coast, warning about 450 people to leave coastal areas. New Zealand’s National Emergency Management Agency has also issued a warning for coastal areas.
