The launch Pixel Fold, Google’s first folding mobile, would be just around the corner. He leaker Jon Prosser, who has hit every recent release from the Mountain View firm, has disclosed not only when the device will be presented, but also from what date it will be available to the public.
As published on Twitter, the announcement of the Pixel Fold will take place next may 10. The date is certainly not surprising, considering that it coincides with Google I/O. In fact, for months it has been rumored that the folding mobile could be present at the traditional event of the Californian firm.
However, the ratification of the date is not unimportant. Especially, because it comes accompanied by very relevant details about its availability. According to Prosser, the Pixel Fold can be reserved from that same day through the Google Store. While the pre-sale through partners and telephone operators – at least in the United States – will be from May 30. Finally, the device will be available to everyone from June 27.
Regarding the technical specifications, there are still no major news about the device. In November 2022, Jon Prosser himself disclosed renders based on the actual design of the Pixel Fold, confirming a similar form factor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line. However, the hardware specifications table remains a mystery.
Let’s not forget that Google has been working on this folding mobile for several years, to the point that it was rumored that it had been cancelled. And the longevity of the project could be evidenced in some aspects of the device, such as the bulky borders around the inner panel, or with an internal camera not hidden under the screen.
According to Prosser, the Pixel Fold will be made of glass and metal, it will come in two colors —black and white—, and it will be sold for $1,799. It is not yet known if Google will offer the foldable in the usual Pixel markets, or if it will bet on a more global strategy.
The Pixel Fold will launch at Google I/O 2023, but it won’t come alone
The Pixel Fold would not be the only big hardware announcement Google would make at I/O 2023. In another tweet, Jon Prosser indicated that during the event the Pixel 7a will also be formally introduced, whose design was leaked in the final months of 2022. The new mobile would arrive in four colors: charcoal, snow, light blue and coral; the latter, only available through the Google Store. An important point to note is that the Pixel 6a, which was introduced in 2022, would not be discontinued.
The Pixel 7a would not only be announced at the Google event scheduled for next month, but would go on sale on the same day. For now, there has been no mention of its possible price, although it is speculated that could be under 500 euros.
It remains to be seen if, in addition to the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a, Google surprises with the introduction of any new pieces of hardware. Let’s not forget that during I/O 2022, Californians “leaked” on stage the announcements of the Pixel Watch, the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, which months later were formally presented.
Let’s take into account that in December Google’s launch roadmap until 2025 came to light. And the first ones have already appeared. renders from the Pixel 8 Pro; so it would not be unusual for the company again choose to advance some details before its official introduction. We will be attentive to the news.
