This comparison shows how thin the edges of the iPhone 15 Pro will be

As we get closer to its presentation, the flow of news about the iPhone 15. The new generation of Apple’s mobile will be launched on September 12 or 13, and there is great expectation for the features that its different variants will incorporate. And in the case of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, a good part of the eyes will be on the tiny borders around their screens.

According to rumors, the Pro models of the iPhone 15 will have edges of just 1.5 millimeters thick. This would make them the smartphones with the thinnest bezels on the market, achieving a 30% reduction in bezels, compared to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Undoubtedly, a substantial change to take full advantage of its 6.1 and 6.7-inch screens.

To make the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have edges that are just 1.5mm, Apple would take advantage of a manufacturing process called LIPO. It consists of an injection methodology that is carried out with less pressure and at a lower temperature. Those of Cupertino have already used this modality previously, starting with the redesign of the Apple Watch Series 7.

However, in the case of the smartphone it would be bringing them inconvenience. LG Display panels would be failing reliability tests by merging with the metal frame. Reason for which Apple would have had to resort to Samsung, which would not have a stock of screens large enough to supply the demand of Californians. Therefore, it is expected that the Pro versions of the iPhone 15 are available in limited quantities at launch.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have the thinnest edges on the market

Having said all this, that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max reach the market with edges of only 1.5 millimeters is a more radical change than many imagine. That is why the designer Ian Zelbo, collaborator of 9to5MacHas made a very interesting visual comparisonbased on CAD files of the new Apple mobiles.

Below, you can see what the edges of the iPhone 15 Pro models will look like compared to the iPhone 14 line.

The 30 percent reduction in frame sizes is evident. Let us also note that Apple does not plan to change the dimensions of its Dynamic Island. So the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will gain a little more screen space on top of it. It will be interesting to see how it is used, or if it is even beneficial.

Although the change between the iPhone 14 Pro and its successors is evident, the change becomes more noticeable when traveling to the past. The bezels on the iPhone 11 Pro and 12 Pro look really gigantic. And not to mention if we make the comparison with the iPhone X, from 2017, which was the first to introduce the notches and a “borderless” design.

The iPhone 15 promises several innovations that go beyond the edge-to-edge screen in the Pro models. There is also enormous anticipation for the introduction of the USB-C port, in order to comply with European regulations on the matter. In addition, larger batteries, camera improvements, and the inclusion of a periscope lens are expected in the Pro Max version. The downside is that the top-of-the-line version would be more expensive than previously thought.
