Traffic accidents in the country will be reduced by 30% through the intervention of 600 intersections throughout the national territory, reported this Sunday the executive director of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), Hugo Beras.
The official said in a statement that, as part of the Safe Intersections project, in a first stage some 300 will be intervened in the municipalities where the greatest number of accidents occur, “that is, 64%” according to the reports of the National Emergency System. 911.
Beras explained that within the areas identified for said implementation are the municipalities of Santo Domingo Este, Oeste, Norte, as well as San Cristóbal, Bonao, Concepción de La Vega, Santiago, San Francisco de Macorís, Nagua, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana. , Higüey, María Trinidad Sánchez and Duarte province.
“Today we congregate in this First Cathedral of America as a gesture of solidarity for each Dominican family that has lost a loved one on the roads,” Beras said when speaking as part of a mass in that temple dedicated to the victims of traffic accidents. traffic, said the information.
Following the provisions of the World Health Organization (WHO), on how speed influences the risk of accidents, the implementation of Safe Intersections includes the placement of speed reducers, he added.
He pointed out that, from the Intrant, work is being done on specific projects aimed at reinforcing road safety, such as the Vehicle Technical Inspection, the Driver’s License System by Points, as well as the Driving and Sobriety program, among other actions that are part of the National Strategic Plan for Road Safety by 2030.
Road Safety Week takes place from November 19 to 26 with road education awareness activities.
