The World Cup is left without its rookies: Morocco and Jamaica eliminated in the round of 16

Closed the round of 16 of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. A goal by Catalina Usme allowed Colombia to break history and qualify for the first time to the quarterfinals in a women’s World Cup by defeating the tough Jamaican team 1-0 on Tuesday in Melbourne.

After the resounding blows they delivered in the group stage, the coffee makers, the only survivors from South America in the tournament, did not disappoint against stronger and faster Jamaicans and, true to form, managed to knock down the Caribbean wall in the Rectangular Stadium.

With this victory overtones of feat, Colombia will meet in the quarterfinals with Englandthe European champion, who eliminated Nigeria and is one of the great favorites for the universal crown.

Morocco’s defeat against France was much more cruel. The team led by Hervé Renard beat the Moroccans in a duel where the first 45 minutes were enough to block the dream of the newcomer Moroccothanks to goals from Diani Kadidiatou (m.14), Dali (m.19) and Le Sommer (m.22), who finished off the game with the fourth goal in minute 70.

The French will meet hosts Australia in the quarterfinals on August 12 at the Brisbane Stadium (AUS).
