The Trops, to surprise Cangas de Asobal in the Copa del Rey

Trops Málaga wants to make history in the Copa del Rey. To do this, Quino Soler’s pupils will have to surprise an entire historic team from the Asobal League, Cangas Handball, this Wednesday, something they already did in the second round of this competition, after eliminating Bidasoa Irún in a match in which the The blue and whites dominated from start to finish and ended with the result of 25-22.

The clash, which will also serve to pay homage to the Malaga handball legends who made history between 1979 and 1999, will take place starting at 8:30 p.m., in the Fray Francisco Baños pavilion of the Los Olivos school, which will surely register a great atmosphere .

The Galician goalkeeper in the ranks of the Trops, Jorge Villamarín, recalled in the preview of the duel that his team was able to eliminate “an entire Bidasoa”, and stressed that the squad from Malacitana is the only one “that remains alive in the Division of Honor Plata is qualifying”.

“It is very difficult to get here. And to add more data, a Silver team has never reached the final at 8 and we are at the gates. So it’s going to be an exciting and very difficult match, since we’re playing against Cangas, which is in the top flight with experienced players, like the goalkeeper Javi Díaz or Juan del Arco, or young players who are going strong, like Brais. I could give more names”, commented the excellent goalkeeper from Trops Málaga.

In the same way, Villamarín indicated that Cangas, due to the fact of playing in Asobal and with 23 seasons in the highest category, “is the clear favorite of the tie, but we, with the greatest enthusiasm, are going to try to enjoy the match . Going through the round and reaching the ‘Final 8’ would be something tremendous. It would be epic to beat Cangas, but we know it will be very difficult. So, I encourage all the people of Malaga to come to the Los Olivos pavilion this Wednesday to support us and to enjoy an elite match. It will be gratifying to see the pavilion full”, stated Villamarín, one of the most regular members of the Malaga team during the season.

The match will be led by referees Roberto Carlos Mendoza Roldán and Juan Pablo Visciarelli Lareo, from the Territorial Federation of Andalusia.

It should be remembered that the six winners of the third round will get their ticket to the ‘Final 8’ of the competition that will be held from May 5 to 7, in Santander. In this sense, last season’s Copa del Rey champion, Antonio Carlos Ortega’s Barça, as well as the organizing team, Blendio Sinfín, have already qualified for the final phase, so the Trops have an opportunity unique to achieve what would be his greatest sporting achievement in just six seasons of life.
