Although Sony has not officially called it PS5 Slim, the truth is that it is the first major revision of the console that reduces its weight and size, as the company has been doing in past generations: a lighter console that, without changing the specifications, It will be the new standard model once the stock of the current model is exhausted.
The new PS5 Slim has reduced its volume by more than 30% and its weight by 18% and 24% compared to previous models, depending on whether it is the digital or disc model. The console is now made up of four separate panels, instead of two, with the upper part in a glossy appearance, while the lower part remains in matte, and continues to be offered in both digital and disc versions.
PS5 Slim: modular design for the disc reader and horizontal support
The interesting thing is that, if you buy the digital edition of PS5, you can add the Ultra HD Blu-ray drive later, since it is modular and will be sold separately. Of course, we will have to add another 79.99 USD | 119.99 euros | £99.99 | 11,980 yen if you want to add it later.
Regarding the price of the console itself, few changes. As confirmed by Sony itself, the PS5 Slim will arrive with the following price structure, always keeping in mind that you can add the disc reader later:

- PS5 Digital Edition – 449.99 USD / 449.99 euros
Of course, keep in mind that, unlike the current model, the new PS5 Slim It is intended to be used horizontally. Sony has confirmed that a horizontal stand will be included with the new model, but a new vertical stand compatible with all models will also be sold separately, for which you will have to pay an additional 30 euros/dollars.
The new PS5 model will be available from November in the US only, although Sony has confirmed that it will be launched globally in the coming months.
