The PlayStation VR2 would wait until 2023

Sony already presented the final design of the Playstation VR2, in addition to its technical specifications. However, those in Japan have not yet revealed information about its price or release date. The foregoing is probably due to the fact that the panorama of uncertainty in the production chain has not allowed them to carry out a safe launch. In fact, although various reports placed its launch during this year, we may have to wait until 2023.

Ross Young, CEO and analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants, said that AMOLED panel production will grow significantly (to 15 million units) thanks to PlayStation VR2 (via VGC). The problem, however, is that these screens will start manufacturing later in 2022 to be ready the following year. Therefore, Sony’s new virtual reality glasses would arrive in 2023.

Although Sony has not commented on this information, the industry expected a launch in late 2022. Why? The company often takes advantage of high sales during the holiday season to push its new products, as recently happened with the PlayStation 5. However, technology companies continue to fight the component shortageand many times their plans are ruined by this situation.

Beyond the production delay, Young claims that the PlayStation VR2 screen will have a 800 dpi density (pixels per inch), a figure never seen before for a mass-produced AMOLED panel. It is clear, then, that Sony has given priority to the quality of the screen. Let us remember that it will have a resolution 4K (2000 x 2040 pixels for each eye), a refresh rate between 90 and 120 Hz and a field of view of 110 degrees.

“With high contrast screens and no visible screen door effect, PlayStation VR2 is likely to be a hit with gamers,” the analyst added. Although certainly the viewer’s hardware promises a lot, what will mark your success or failure will be your game catalog. In this sense, fortunately Sony already did a good job with the previous generation of the device.

It is known that it is currently in development Horizon Call of the Mountain, a virtual reality experience based on the popular franchise created by Guerrilla Games. In fact, the studio is involved with Firesprite in its creation. The announcement of this game showed that Sony intends to offer AAA titles to future PlayStation VR2 owners.
