Taking action after the bomb attack of PKK/PYD terrorists on Istiklal Street, Turkey launched the Claw Sword Operation both in northern Iraq and northern Syria. A large number of terrorists were neutralized by air operations. Turkey’s operations also found a wide place on the world agenda. Two different statements, especially from the USA, drew attention.
US DEFENSE AGAINST OPERATION
The US Department of Defense opposed the operation in a statement it made in the morning on the subject. The statement did not condemn the rocket attacks targeting civilians in Turkey. “The US Department of Defense denies any military action that destabilizes the situation in Syria or any violation of Iraqi sovereignty by carrying out military activities without coordination with the Iraqi government.”
WHITE HOUSE: TURKEY HAS THE RIGHT TO DEFEND ITSELF AGAINST TERRORISM
A completely different statement came from the White House in the evening. The statement, stating that Turkey has the right to defend itself against terrorism, said, “The legitimate threat of terrorism continues in the south of Turkey. It has the right to defend itself.”
PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN: THE USA NEEDS TO KNOW US NOW
On the other hand, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking on his return from his visit to Qatar, said, “We have not had any meetings with Mr. Biden or Mr. Putin regarding this operation. As a matter of fact, as in this case, we always say, we may come suddenly one night. Turkey ‘s security organization, we do not work with permission. If we are going to take a step, we will make the decision and take this step as well. America should know about us now. It probably does. I hope all of us will see that we have to throw it away,” he said.
