Honor does not want to be the only manufacturer without a new foldable smartphone. After Samsung announced its Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, and following the recent launch of the Oppo Find n3 Flip, the Chinese company formerly owned by Huawei has unveiled the Honor Magic V2. It is, in a way, the successor to the Magic VS that was announced globally at the end of the year, and it comes to compete against the rest of the devices in this segment with a much thinner and thinner design than the rest. Without sacrificing, in addition, in specifications.
The Honor Magic V2 is actually an alternative to foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, because it has a very similar design. It is a mobile whose flexible interior screen is displayed horizontally, as if it were a book, and also has an exterior panel to use the device when the main screen is completely glued.
The difference is that this Honor Magic V2 is also very similar to conventional smartphones for two reasons. On the one hand, its thickness, which is de 4.70mm when the device is fully unfolded, or 13.4mm when folded. For another; his weight, 231 grams. It is therefore considerably less wide than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5, which measures 13.4mm thick when folded. Also that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 (10.96 mm when folded) so far one of the thinnest flexible screen smartphones on the market.
The thickness is not only comparable to its competition, but also with traditional smartphones. It is less heavy than the iPhone 14 Pro Max (240 grams), or the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (234) grams.
Now, how has Honor managed to significantly reduce weight and thickness? According to the company, the components of the hinge, which allows the screen to be folded and unfolded, have been redesigned for this purpose. The hinge, by the way, maintains the resistance of up to 400,000 folds that we obtained in previous generations, as well as the same format as the Honor Magic VS, which allows to considerably reduce the crease that is created on the screen when folding the phone.
The latest from Qualcomm and a stylus similar to the S Pen of the Z Fold
The Honor Magic V2 not only competes in design, but also in sections such as the screen, the camera or autonomy. The company’s new foldable, for example, features a 6.43-inch flexible inner panel with OLED technology. It has a resolution of 2344 × 2156 pixels, as well as a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The outer screen, on the other hand, is 6.43 inches. It is also an OLED panel and includes a 120 Hz refresh rate, although its resolution is slightly lower, at 2376 × 1060 pixels.
Regarding performance, the Honor Magic V2 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2 processor, one of the most powerful SoCs for smartphones at the moment. It also does so accompanied by 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, as well as a 5,000 mAh battery.
honor, moreover, has made the Magic V2 screen compatible with its own stylus, to be able to write or draw on its screen. It is something that Samsung has been including in its highest-end foldables for generations, and in the same way as the South Korean company, the digital pen of this Magic V2 will be sold separately.
The camera is also an important point in this Honor Magic V2. Not only for its features, but also for its software features. The configuration, in this case, is the following.
- 50-megapixel main sensor with f/1.9 aperture.
- 50 megapixel ultra wide angle sensor.
- 20 megapixel telephoto sensor with 2.5x optical zoom.
Additionally, Honor has also induced two cameras for selfies. One on the outer screen, and one on the flexible inner panel. In both cases, with a resolution of 16 megapixels. They are, yes, sensors that are hardly used, since it is possible to use the main lenses and the external screen as a preview mode.
