He Cabinet for the Fight Against Sargassuman advisory council created this Monday by decree, will have the responsibility of proposing and coordinating the execution of public policies aimed at reversing the effects generated by this floating macroalgae on the beaches and coasts of the country.
The measure is contained in a decree of the president Luis Abinaderwhere it is established that the new entity is made up of the Ministers of Tourism and the Environment and Natural Resources, as well as the Economy, Planning and Development,
It is also made up of the executive vice president of the National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanismthe Commander General of the Dominican Republic Navy, a representative of the Ministry of the Presidency and a representative of the Association of Hotels and Tourism (Asonahores), representing the private sector.
With this arrangement, the Executive power actively responds to the multiple alerts that society and the tourism sector have been making as a result of the intensification of the arrival of sargassum to the Dominican coasts each year.
Through this decree, an attempt is made to articulate the policies, plans and projects related to the fight against sargassum, establish the actions that must be executed by the members of the cabinet and promote the participation of the private sector in the solution to this national problem.
In the same way, the cabinet may suggest to the Executive Branch or international organizations financial support for the established solutions and invite other State or private sector agencies related to the environment and tourism to its sessions with a view to diversifying the dialogue table.
