The Euroleague and the Eurocup confirm the exclusion of Russian teams

Euroliga Basketball has decided this Tuesday to definitively exclude Russian teams -CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, Zenit St Petersburg, and Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar- of the Euroleague and the Eurocup, eliminating all the results of the regular season games against said teams, the agency reported in a statement.

“The Executive Board of Shareholders of ECA made the following decisions regarding the war in Ukraine: withdraw the participation of teams from the Russian Federation in both the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague (CSKA Moscow, UNICS Kazan, Zenit St Petersburg) and the 7DAYS EuroCup (Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar) for the 2021-22 season, as the situation in Ukraine has not changed,” the text said.

In addition, and recalling what was decided at the ECA Shareholders’ Executive Meeting held on February 28, all results are deleted of regular-season games against Russian teams.

Thus, the updated classification leaves the Barca leader of the Euroleague with 19 victories and Real Madrid second in the table with 18 wins, so both teams are classified for the playoffs and with home-court advantage. While Baskonia would be tenth with 10 wins, one behind Monaco, which marks the ‘Top8’ positions.

In Eurocup, Joventut de Badalona leads the competition with 11 wins and Morabanc Andorra is third with 9 wins.
