The Dominican Republic participated for the first time in the “World of Coffee Dubai”, the annual “main trade fair” for coffee for exhibitors, buyers and visitors from the Middle East, aimed at importers of coffee from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), reported the Foreign Ministry .
The Dominican participation, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the embassy of the Dominican Republic in the UAE, had the support of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana).
“We are taking forceful steps to promote the export of our coffee, following the vision of President Luis Abinader and Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez,” highlighted Julio Simón Castaños, Dominican ambassador to that country, highlighted the ministerial note.
The Department of Foreign Relations assured that during the fair, held from the 11th to the 13th of this month with the participation of more than one hundred countries, “dozens of businessmen” showed interest in Dominican coffee, especially importers from Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Taiwan, South Africa, Australia and Russia.
Dominican coffee is gaining space in the international market, said the Foreign Ministry.
In 2021, “thanks to coordinated efforts”, the export of the aromatic reached 12.2 million dollars, an increase of 64.8% compared to 2020, and last year sales reached 36 million dollars.
