The APDM and the Marbella Town Hall present the II City of Marbella Sports Journalism Award

Jesús Ortiz, Deseada Tejera, Marina Rivas, Isabel Sánchez and César Suárez have been the winners of the II City of Marbella Sports Journalism Awardorganized by the Association of Sports Journalists of Malaga (APDM) with the main sponsorship of the Sports delegation of the Marbella Town Hall and with the collaboration of the Don Pepe Gran Meliá hotel.

This Friday in the Picasso room of the hotel itself has been the award ceremony attended by the mayoress of Marbella, angeles munoz; the Councilor for Sports in Marbella, Manuel Cardena; the president of the Association of Sports Journalists of Malaga, Antonio Rengel; the award-winners and members of the jury; representatives of the sponsoring entities of the APDM and a large group of people from the journalistic and sports sector of the province of Malaga and specifically from the capital of Marbella.

The mayoress of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz, opened the event by congratulating the winners and highlighted “the support for your work, a work of the highest level, which makes us proud and which also serves to show the best face of Marbella and the province through of sport”. Likewise, Muñoz underlined the firm commitment that the Marbella municipality has with sport: “Both with the constant support of our professionals (there is the Marca Marbella sponsorship program that is reaping such good results) and the constant impetus and improvement of the municipal facilities. Without forgetting the celebration of major events such as the Ironman, the Rhythmic Gymnastics Grand Prix or the World Padel Tour, among others. Events of which, surely, you, the communication professionals, will continue telling human stories, real stories, that are worth telling”.

For his part, the president of the Association of Sports Journalists of Malaga, Antonio Rengel, commented that “it is an honor for the APDM to once again reward the work of colleagues in a place like Marbella, an international benchmark for commitment to sport and the cradle of great journalists. We will continue working in the effort to dignify the profession and value the work of sports journalists in the province of Malaga”. “And here we are also proud to be the link that unites all the sports sectors in Marbella. They will always find help in us when they need us”, stressed Rengel to close the event that was presented by the professor from the University of Malaga, María Jesús Fernández, and the journalist from Onda Cero, Julio Rodríguez, both members of the APDM.

The jury of the II City of Marbella Sports Journalism Award, whose objective is to support the dissemination of sport by highlighting the work carried out by communication professionals in the transmission of their values ​​to society, has awarded the Gold Feather with an endowment of 1,500 euros to Jesús Ortiz García for his work “Sarah Almagro, a Phoenix bird between waves that break limits”, a descriptive report of the current adapted surfing world champion.

The Silver Feather, with an endowment of 800 euros, has been for the journalist Marina Rivas Gallardo with her report “The second that changed a whole life”. The text narrates the accident of the Malaga nurse Laura Sánchez, an accident that left her in a wheelchair; and how this health worker found her way of life in rowing.

The Accésit Antonio Naranjo -historian, statistician and journalist from Marbella who died in 2017- with an endowment of 300 euros and to which Spanish sports journalists can attend with a work on Marbella sport has gone to the report “El Santana de Marbella” by Cesar Suarez Guerrero. This chronicle collects the tribute paid in the city of Marbella to the figure of tennis player Manuel Santana.

The Multimedia category was added as a novelty this edition with an endowment of 1,500 euros for the Golden Microphone, which has been for Desired Tejera Callejón, with her audiovisual report “Sports journalism in times of Twitch”a documentary about the debate generated as a result of the coverage by Ibai Llanos of Messi’s presentation with PSG.

As for the Silver Microphone, with an amount of 800 euros, it has fallen to Isabel Sánchez González for her radio report on the Copa del Rey held in Malaga in 2020. A wide coverage with various interviews, which recall the history of basketball in Malaga.

In addition, the Marbella Town Hall has delivered two recognitions Marbella Legend brand that has fallen on the former basketball player Carlos Cabezas and the pioneer golfer from Marbella Diego Borregor for their outstanding sports careers.
