If the reports that have emerged recently are fulfilled to the letter, the release of the PS5 Slim is right around the corner. It’s a fact that Sony is working on the first major revision of its console in a while, although the official details are still being kept under wraps. However, not even the Japanese giant is safe from leaks. The supposed first image of the PS5 Slim is already circulating on the internet.
It is important to mention that, at the moment, there is no reliable source that has been able to verify that we are really seeing the first look at the PS5 Slim. The image apparently came from the Asian production chain.
Today, when a tech product enters—or is about to—manufacture in China, it is more difficult to prevent leaks. Sony itself already experienced it “firsthand” when, during 2020, images of the white covers of the PS5 appeared. At the time, however, the leak went unnoticed because we didn’t know the design yet.
The first image of the PS5 Slim, although it does not show the complete console, makes it clear that Sony would have preferred not to puzzle over the design. On top of it at least, it looks very similar to the current product. Of course, the Asian source assures that is 5 centimeters shorterwhile the thickness remains intact.
Another noteworthy detail is that the side covers expose a cut in the middle of their surface. We do not know if it is a simple aesthetic novelty or if it is related to the removable disk drive.
Here it is important to remember that, according to multiple reports, one of the main novelties of the PS5 Slim is the possibility of removing the disc drive. This would allow Sony to offer a single model on the market, leaving the consumer to choose whether or not to purchase the reader separately. Of course, there would bundles include everything from the beginning.
To end, the PS5 Slim would have two USB-C inputs on the front. The current PlayStation 5 has a USB-C and a USB-A port, so the latter would be replaced by the more modern standard.
PS5 Slim at the end of 2023?
Several clues place the launch of the PS5 Slim this same year. Last December, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, hinted that throughout 2023 we will have news of new hardware: “I cannot go into details at this time, but hopefully they will look forward to the next year.”
In July, during the trial that confronted Microsoft with the FTC for the purchase of Activision Blizzard, those from Redmond affirmed that Sony plans to launch the PS5 Slim at the end of 2023. They advanced, on the other hand, that the console it will cost $399 dollarswhich is the current price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
“PlayStation also sells a less expensive digital edition for $399.99 and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price.”
“When the river sounds, water carries”, so it should come as no surprise that Sony will introduce the PS5 Slim in the coming months. There are rumors that they will celebrate a second showcasean ideal event to reveal the revision of your console.
