Tamim Iqbal came to Mirpur Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium for the first time after stepping down from the post of captain. Tamim, who was suffering from a back injury, spent some time at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) medical department to start the rehabilitation process to return to cricket.
Tamim will be resting for two weeks till August 11. He will then start the rehabilitation process.
Tamim, who is undergoing injections to recover from a back injury, has already been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup and has withdrawn his name. However, Tamim is determined to play the three-match ODI series against New Zealand before the ODI World Cup. Despite stepping down from the captaincy, Tamim has still not given up hope of playing in the World Cup.
In the first week of July, Tamim abruptly retired from cricket following Bangladesh’s loss in the first ODI of the series against Afghanistan. After a discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tamim withdrew from the decision to retire within 28 hours.
The Prime Minister gave Tamim a six-week leave from cricket to keep him mentally and physically fit. After that, Tamim sought the advice of doctors in England to spend time with his family and recover from the back pain he had been suffering from since December last year.
