tesla has announced the production of 430,488 electric cars during the third quarter – July, August, September – of 2023. A quite surprising number, in which they have achieved an increase of 25% compared to the same quarter of 2022. But at the same time it represents a 10% drop in sales compared to the second quarter of 2022.
In terms of sales, the figures are similar. 435,059 vehicles delivered throughout the third quarter of 2023, which means an interannual increase of 26.5% – that is, compared to the same quarter of 2022 -. But a drop of 6.6% if compared to the second quarter of 2023.
The reason, which was notified by Tesla at the end of the second quarter of the year, is the stoppages in the company’s factories to accommodate changes to the redesign of the Model 3 and a redesign of the Model Y that has not yet been confirmed, although in China An update appeared with some interior changes.
Tesla’s goal is to sell 1.8 million electric cars throughout 2023. At the moment, the figure stands at 1.35 million units, so they would have to sell 450,000 vehicles throughout the fourth quarter to fulfill the goal. Most likely, they will succeed, barring some surprise or event over which the company has no control.

New challenges for Tesla
Tesla faces a new challenge, once it puts the Cybertruck on sale, its proposal to compete in the pick-up market, a very important market segment in the United States, which is currently dominated by the Ford F-150. The truck would go on sale in 2021, after its announcement in 2019. But after two years of delays, the first deliveries will be made in 2023. There are only three months left to meet that deadline.
But Tesla’s real challenge with the Cybertruck is not the first deliveries, but large-scale production. Especially because of the new manufacturing methods to accommodate the truck’s “exoskeleton”, the material and the cold-pressed stainless steel panels to be molded.
Although it is an interesting product, due to how different it looks from any other vehicle on the market, it remains to be seen if the general public will be interested in purchasing such a peculiar vehicle that divides opinions between those who consider it to be brilliant and those who think it is simply very ugly.
