Team India: Why didn’t Kohli-Rohit get a place in the T20 team? Head coach Rahul Dravid explained the reason

Team India also has to play three T20 matches against New Zealand after the end of the ODI series. Players like captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not been included in the team for the T20 series and Hardik Pandya has been given the captaincy of the team. Ever since India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup last year, questions are being raised about the T20 careers of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. If seen, after the T20 World Cup, all three have not played a single match in the shortest format of cricket.

Now Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has given a big statement about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not being in the T20 team. Dravid said that Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been given breaks under workload management. Dravid believes that this year there are big tournaments like Test series against Australia and ODI World Cup, in such a situation workload matters for the players. According to the new policy of BCCI, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) will keep an eye on the workload of the players during this year’s IPL.

Dravid said before the third ODI against New Zealand, ‘Workload management has become an important part of the game today. We keep reviewing these things. We gave players (Rohit, Virat, KL Rahul) a break for the T20 series under workload management. Injury management and workload management are two different things. Looking at the amount of cricket we are playing, there has to be a balance between the two as to what is the priority for us in the near future. Also, it has to be ensured that our big players are available for big tournaments.

Seniors will participate in IPL: Dravid

Dravid said players involved in ODI World Cup plans would play in the IPL as it would help them assess their T20 skills. Dravid told, ‘NCA and our medical team will be in constant touch with the franchise in the case of IPL and if there is any issue or injury, we will attend to it. If a player is injured or there is any other concern, then of course I think the BCCI has the right to drop him. But if he is fit then we will keep him released for IPL as it is an important tournament.

Rahul Dravid believes this break is necessary ahead of the two-week camp ahead of the all-important four-match Test series against Australia starting next month. Dravid said, ‘You need to play some white ball tournaments in a fixed time. It is important to play four matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for possible WTC qualification.

Dravid denied split captaincy

India head coach Rahul Dravid has denied that his team is adopting a policy of different captains for different formats. In the absence of Rohit, Hardik Pandya captained the T20 team and is a strong contender to captain India in the T20 World Cup in 2024.

Dravid said, ‘I am not aware of this. (Different captains in different formats). You should ask this question to the selectors, but at the moment I do not think so. In the same month, Dravid himself said that the Indian T20 team is going through a phase of change and there is a need to exercise restraint. On the other hand, Captain Rohit Sharma had said that he has not decided about his future in T20 cricket and will think about it after IPL.
