Swedish PM Kristersson: Disrespectful

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in a statement after far-right politician Rasmus Paludan burned the Quran in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm, “It is extremely disrespectful to burn books that are sacred to many.”

In a statement, Swedish Prime Minister Kristersson said, “Freedom of expression is a fundamental part of democracy. However, not everything that is legal is appropriate. Burning books that are sacred to many is extremely disrespectful. I express my sympathy to all Muslims who are disturbed by what is happening in Stockholm.”

Following Paludan’s action, the following statements were included in the statement made by the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm:

“Despite all the warnings of our country, we condemn the despicable attack against our holy book, the Quran, in Sweden today (21 January). We do not accept any permission to be allowed. Because this is a hate crime. This despicable act is also another indication of the alarming level reached by Islamophobia, racist and discriminatory trends in Europe. We urge the Swedish authorities to take necessary action against the perpetrators of this hate crime and to take all countries We call on international organizations and international organizations to take concrete measures in solidarity against Islamophobia.”
