Bad news for fans of the intergalactic saga. Star Wars Outlaws, the open world game developed by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, will arrive later than expected. Initially, the French company planned to launch it during its current fiscal year. That is, before March 2024. However, the team requires more time to finish it and its arrival was postponed to the next fiscal year – between April 2024 and March 2025.
The unfortunate information was released by Ubisoft itself during its financial report for the second fiscal quarter of 2023 (via VGC). A curious point is that the company does not directly mention Star Wars Outlaws like the game that has been harmed. However, given that it was scheduled for the first months of the following year, it is not difficult to deduce that they are referring to it.
“The company decided to launch another big game during fiscal year 2024-25, to maximize its value creation.”
We are surprised? To be honest, no. In fact, when it became known that Star Wars Outlaws was scheduled for the first quarter of 2024, it was hard to believe they would manage to finish it on time.
Ubisoft isn’t exactly the most reliable company when it comes to meeting initial release windows—or dates. We can check it with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Beyond Good & Evil 3 or the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Timeto mention just a few.
Ubisoft, however, can back itself by saying that Star Wars Outlaws I still didn’t have a specific date. On the other hand, development is the responsibility of Massive Entertainment, a studio that is also in charge Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Making two titles of such magnitude, with release dates so close, was an impossible mission.
Surely, after Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora see the light on December 7, 2023, Massive will finally be able to focus fully on finishing and polishing Star Wars Outlaws. Ubisoft cannot afford to deliver a title with questionable quality. Is Star Wars, and one setback can mark them forever. You can ask Electronic Arts, which together with DICE ruined battlefront…
The good news is that the extensive progress of Star Wars Outlaws shown during the Xbox Showcase 2023 looks quite promising. It will be the first time that a video game in the franchise is set in a completely open world with different planets to explore.
“Explore unique planets with bustling cities and cantinas before traversing vast landscapes in your speeder. Each planet brings new adventures, unique challenges and exciting rewards if you can brave the risks.”
In Star Wars Outlaws We will stand at the feet of Kay Vess, an outlaw seeking freedom. The problem is that, when the Empire dominates much of the galaxy, achieving that dream becomes complicated.
