Shubman Gill India vs New Zealand: Indian team’s young opener Shubman Gill performed with a bang and has joined the double century club. Gill played a blistering inning of 208 runs in the first match of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Due to this, Team India won the match by 12 runs.
But it is to be seen here that behind this brilliant innings of Gill, he got two lives. He got this lifeline on a single ball, which was given by New Zealand captain and wicketkeeper Tom Latham. If Gill did not get this lifeline, then his innings would have been limited to 45 runs only.
This is how Latham gave life to Gill
Actually, Gill got this lifeline in the 19th over during the innings. This over off-spin all-rounder was doing Michael Bracewell. On the first ball of his over, Gill went ahead and played the shot. During this, Gill could not come in the line of the ball. There was no ball spin either. The edge of Gill’s bat hit the straight ball.
It was not a difficult catch, but wicketkeeper Latham could not catch it. Missing this catch was the first lifeline for Gill. Immediately after this, wicketkeeper Latham also had a chance to stump out Gill on this ball, because Gill had reached out of the crease. But call it Latham’s bad luck or Gill’s good luck. The wicketkeeper also missed the chance to stump out.
