Shreyas Iyer India vs Australia: After winning the home Test series against Australia, the Indian team now has to play a three-match ODI series against them. But just before this series, the Indian team has suffered a major setback. Middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who was injured in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, may now be ruled out of the ODI series as well.
Shreyas did not bat in the fourth Test against Australia. After fielding for two consecutive days in the Ahmedabad Test, Shreyas complained of swelling in his lower back. He also bowled one over during this period.
‘I don’t think Shreyas is fine’
Currently, Shreyas Iyer is under the supervision of the BCCI medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). According to ESPNcricinfo, Shreyas may be out of the series. Indian captain Rohit Sharma had said about Shreyas Iyer’s injury after the fourth Test, ‘I don’t think Shreyas is fine. This is unfortunate.’
The BCCI issued a statement on Monday (March 13) saying, “Specialist’s opinion will be taken regarding Shreyas’s injury.” If Shreyas is out of the ODI series, then Rajat Patidar or Rahul Tripathi can be included in the team in his place.
Kolkata team’s tension increased in IPL
Let us tell you that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season is also going to start from 31st March. Shreyas Iyer is the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team in IPL. In such a situation, it is a matter of tension for this team as well. If Shreyas’s injury is serious, he may have to be ruled out of the initial matches of the IPL.
This injury of middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer is also worrying because it is emerging again and again. Earlier, on the Bangladesh tour of December 2022, Shreyas had to go through the same problem. Then he had to be ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to injury.
