Many people from Turkey showed support for the haircut action that women started in Iran to protest the murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Başak Demirtaş announced that the former Co-Chair of HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, who was held in Edirne Prison, and Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Adnan Selçuk Mızraklı, who was replaced by a trustee, had their hair shaved.

Başak Demirtaş shared on her Twitter account, “Selahattin and Selçuk Hodja shaved their hair to protest the murder of Mahsa Amini, who was detained and murdered in Iran because a part of her hair was uncovered, and to support the resistance in Iran.”

In the letter he wrote, Demirtaş said: “We feel the pain of Mahsa Amini, who was murdered by the Iranian morality police because of her hair, in our deepest hearts. Resisting oppression and oppression is not only the responsibility of women. It is not only women’s responsibility to support the struggle for equality and freedom, which women bravely lead, and to support the struggle for equality and freedom in Iran. We shaved our hair today with my cellmate Dr. Selçuk Mızraklı to show that we stand with the people who resist for freedom. All the oppression and tyranny will be destroyed in the face of the people’s resistance. A thousand greetings to those who resist. May God have mercy on Mahsa Amini, condolences to his family and our people. I wish you health and patience, and convey our feelings of solidarity with greetings.”

Selahattin Demirtaş and Selçuk Mızraklı, who were detained, shaved their heads to support Iranian women.
