Sainz takes the podium in Austin after the disqualifications of Hamilton and Leclerc

Both Leclerc, who had been sixth, and Hamilton – who finished second in the race, behind the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – were investigated by irregularities in the flat bottom of their cars by the FIA ​​(International Automobile Federation), which finally confirmed their disqualification.

For this reason, Sainz, 29, officially finished the test in third place, behind Verstappen and the Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren), who had crossed the finish line in third position and advanced one. The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), 33, who had finished fifth, is finally fourth in the official classification.

The disqualification of Leclerc and Hamilton meant that the two Williams drivers, the Thai Alex Albon and the American Logan Sargeant, who had finished eleventh and twelfth, enter the points: in the case of the American debutant, for the first time in his F1 career.
