Ronda will host the Spanish Canyoning Championship

Round will host on September 23 and 24 the Spanish Canyoning Championship, an event organized by Barranqueros Sin Fronteras (BSF), the Federation of Andalusian Mountain Climbing and Hiking (FADMES) and the Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing (FEDME) with the support of the Diputación de Málaga, the Junta de Andalucía and the Ronda Town Hall. In parallel form The Andalusian Canyoning Championship will be held. There will be thirty participants divided into four mixed teams, so the participation of a minimum of four women is guaranteed.

The presentation of the event was attended by the vice president and deputy for Sports of the Malaga Provincial Council, Juan Rosas; the territorial delegate for Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, Gema del Corral; the Tourism delegate of the Ronda City Council, Ángel Martínez; the Sports delegate of the Ronda City Council, Bernardo Crespo; the president of the Andalusian Mountain Federation, Julio Perea; and the head of the FEDME canyoning competition, Isidro Toro.

After the success of the test corresponding to the selective for the 2022 Spanish Canyoning Championship, also held in Ronda last November, the event returns in its first official edition to the Tagus, the only sports canyon located in an urban area. In this test the title of Champions and Champions will be decided. As established in the Official Regulations for Canyoning Competitions, the modalities of Technique and Speed ​​will be played by male, female and mixed pairs.

Among the challenges that the participants will face will be a rappel (trapid descent technique on vertical walls by sliding on a rope attached to the body) of 80 meters in the New Bridge, which can be seen by people who are in the area.

will also be enabled a non-competitive zip line from the Mirador de Aldehuela to the Jardines de Cuenca, that the participants will have to cross to later go walking until they reach the Old Bridge where the first rappel will be that will allow access to the Tagus Gorge that they will have to cross saving four more rappels. The route, one kilometer long and with a drop of 150 meters, will end at the Los Molinos Hostel.

Canyoning is a sports practice consisting of the progression through canyons or ravines, torrent beds or mountain rivers, on foot and/or swimmingand that already have different techniques, their own well-differentiated materials.
