President Erdoğan received NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The reception, which was closed to the press at the Dolmabahçe Office, lasted approximately 1 hour.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın and NATO officials were also present at the reception. After the meeting, Stoltenberg made statements to the press.

“I congratulated President Erdogan in today’s meeting. Turkey is an extremely important NATO ally. We would like to underline the tripartite reconciliations between Sweden, Finland and Turkey. Today, and Mr. President Erdogan, we agreed to continue the joint mechanism in a strong way.

Finally, I came here to show solidarity after the devastating earthquake a few months ago. During my meeting with President Erdoğan, I congratulated him on his re-election. We collaborated on ideas for NATO’s meeting to be held next month.

We discussed Turkey’s legitimate security concerns. Sweden took steps to address Turkey’s concerns. Sweden has completed its commitments. On June 12, Sweden, Türkiye and NATO will meet. Joining NATO will make Sweden stronger, but it will also make NATO and Turkey stronger.”
