The Diego Carrasco Beach Handball Cup is already a reality. An initiative around the figure of the historic coach from Malaga, who will give its name to a beach handball tournament that will have its first edition this summer. Will be from Friday the 7th to Sunday the 9th of July in Torrox Costa, a municipality with a deep tradition in this sport, will be the host. A project that was officially presented this Wednesday at the International Tourism Fair at Ifema in Madrid. A giant stage for a championship that will enter the prestigious Eurohandball Beach Tour (EBT) and the Andalusian circuit.
At the launch at FITUR at the stand of the Costa del Sol Tourist Board were Francisco Salado, president of the Malaga Provincial Council; Cristóbal Ortega, Provincial Deputy for the Environment and Sports; Óscar Medina, mayor of Torrox Costa: and Sebastián Fernández, president of the Andalusian Handball Federation. Also Pepa Moreno, president of the Málaga Costa del Sol Women’s Handball Club, and Óscar Miras, partner-director of Sports and Business, the two organizers of the tournament.
The first edition of the Diego Carrasco Beach Handball Cup will bring together more than 1,700 participants distributed in more than 100 teams from junior to senior category, in male and female. A carat tribute to Diego Carrasco, a key figure in the development of Spanish beach handball, where before his goodbye he was the absolute national coach. Three days of competition that will also mean a tourist boost for Torrox due to the powerful impact of the championship, since there will be teams from Portugal, the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Germany or Poland.
This inaugural tournament features the back the Junta de Andalucía, the Malaga Provincial Council, the Torrox City Council, the Costa del Sol Tourist Board, the Alhaurín de la Torre City Council, the Antequera City Council, the Andalusian Handball Federation, the Grupo Raíz Digital, Automóviles Torres, Emec, Eshmún Sport Clinic, Cervezas Victoria, CSIF, Marisquería XeitoMar, EnPie, HM Hospitales and BCD Sports.
