Panama’s economic activity grew by 12.2% year-on-year in September

The Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE) of Panama registered an interannual variation of 12.23% in September, while in the accumulated index of the year it increased by 11.08% interannual, according to the
preliminary information compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).

Thus, the Panamanian economy maintains a path of recovery, after the impact of the health emergency caused by covid-19 and conflicts in the international arena.

By activities, the ones that presented the greatest positive variation were construction, which continued registering favorable rates, due to the increase in investment in private projects, commercial activity and financial intermediation. In addition, hospitality, transport and community activities also had an increase in their production levels.

Among the activities that registered negative results were the generation of thermal electricity and the production of pasteurized milk, as well as certain crops in the agricultural sector.
