The series of preventive measures consist of limiting access to the application with a certain screen time for children and adolescents, giving it much more power thanks to the new functions so that adults have more control over the use made by their children. in the social network.

In general terms, any user under the age of 18 could have the screen time limit automatically set to 60 minutes and the new restriction can be applied to new and existing accounts that have not yet used this tool.

There is one notable detail: teenagers have the possibility of deactivating this setting, however, if they spend more than 100 minutes connected during the same day, TikTok will request to set a daily screen time limit. The application will also notify each week a summary of the time of use.

The new tools for all users will also allow anyone over the age of 18 to set their own time limits for each day of the week, a sleep reminder and the option to set a time for notifications to stop bothering you.

With these new restrictions, the social network of Chinese origin for sharing short videos and in vertical format hopes to counteract the strong criticism, especially from the North American public regarding the negative effects that it can cause to people’s mental health due to its constant use.
