Serbia’s star tennis player Novak Djokovic has won the men’s singles title in the US Open 2023. In the final match held at K Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, second seed Djokovic defeated third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3 in straight sets. This was Novak Djokovic’s 24th Grand Slam title. Now Djokovic has become the player to win the most Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era.
36-year-old Djokovic overtook America’s Serena Williams, who had won 23 Grand Slam singles titles in the Opener era. Australia’s Margaret Court also won 24 Grand Slam singles titles, but 13 of these titles came before the Open Era. The Open Era in tennis started in the year 1968. If Djokovic wins another Grand Slam, he will surpass Margaret Court in terms of winning the most Grand Slam singles titles in tennis history.
The final match between Djokovic and Medvedev lasted for a total of three hours and 17 minutes. Djokovic won the first set easily, but he was given a tough fight by Medvedev in the second set. There were moments in the second set, which lasted 1 hour 44 minutes, when Djokovic appeared to be faltering. But this Serbian player did not lose courage and won the second set in the tiebreaker. After losing the second set, Medvedev could not make a comeback even in the third set.
