The current 2023 World Cup did not go well for Pakistan. They left the group stage with a bad performance on the field. After a failed World Cup mission, there has been a drastic change in the Pakistan team. Pakistan team coach, captain, team director all changed. In the absence of a coach, Mohammad Hafeez will be the head coach of the Pakistan team for the upcoming two series.
Babar Azam left the captaincy of Pakistan from three editions – Test, ODI and T20, taking responsibility for the failure of the Pakistan team in the World Cup.
After Babar’s exit, the team’s team director Mickey Arthur also left. Mohammad Hafiz was appointed as the team director of the team on the same day. This time the former captain of Pakistan has been given a bigger responsibility. Hafeez has been given the responsibility of the Pakistan team’s head coach for the tour of Australia and New Zealand.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided that in the future, the responsibility of the team manager and head coach will be given to one person. As part of that decision, they made Hafeez the head coach for the 3-match Test series against Australia in December and the 5-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand in January.
Hafeez last played for Pakistan in 2021. The former Pakistan cricketer has no coaching experience before. However, the board wants to start a new generation by his hand.
Hafeez has played 218 ODIs, 55 Tests and 119 T20Is in his 18-year career for Pakistan. His total number of runs in these three formats is more than 12,500.
