Dominican Republic received 2,076,171 tourists during January-March 2023. This was reported by the Minister of Tourism, david collado, during the monthly press conference where he informs the country of the behavior of the tourism sector.
“With this figure we break our own records, since we surpassed 2019 by 11%, 2021 by 190% and 2022 by 21%,” said the official. He said that the month of March also broke the record for visits, with the arrival of 740,324 tourists by air, surpassing the same month of 2019 by 10% and 20% last year.
He also reported that in March the country received 280,247 cruise passengers, surpassing the same month last year when 134,070 arrived by sea.
“If we add the 740,324 tourists who arrived by air, plus the 280,247 cruise passengers, we are talking about the fact that only in March we received 1,020,571 visitors, something never seen in a month,” Collado stressed. In the same way, he highlighted that in the history of Dominican tourism, the country had never received 2,882,698 visitors in the first quarter of the year.
“We are talking about that from January to March of this year we received 2,076,171 tourists by air and 806,527 cruise passengers, which indicates that the Dominican Republic received the arrival of 2,882,698 visitors in the first quarter of the year,” said Collado.
The official predicted that by the end of the year, if there are no extraordinary events, the country will receive 7.8 million tourists. In addition, he highlighted that the major tourist-emitting countries in March were the United States with 48.1%, Canada, 23.2%; Colombia, 2.9%; France, 2.6%; and Germany, 2.5%.
