Mexico continues to show itself as a power in archery, this after the women’s team made up of Aída Román, Alejandra Valencia and Ángela Ruiz won the gold medal in the world cup of the specialty, in Antalya, Turkey.
The Mexican hat-trick forcefully defeated the Chinese team made up of An Qixuan, Zhang Mengyao, Hai Ligan 6-0.
The experienced pairing of Valecina and Román teamed up with the 16-year-old to beat the top seeds, who made their first appearance at this World Cup since 2019.
In a show of forcefulness throughout the competition, Mexico was up 4-0 on the scoreboard and the finish was accurate, despite the good start of the Chinese, but two arrows that were placed in the eights complicated the outlook for the Asian women who succumbed to the good tricolor response.
Valencia Trujillo, Román Arroyo and Ruiz Rosales shot a total of five arrows in the ten-point zone; while the Chinese only placed a shot of ten units.
“We expected that for a long time. We had been waiting for first place for two years, and now we have it”, assured Ale Valencia after the conquest.
“It’s a good start to the season. We are very confident that our new team is good and works well,” he noted.
The next edition will be in Shanghai, China, from May 16 to 21, 2023.
