Mexico will have the opportunity to have a new world champion in the UFC, after Irene Aldana will receive the opportunity of her life.
Through a video Dana White announced that the native of Culiacán, Sinaloa, will have the opportunity to face Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight belt in UFC 289 on Saturday June 10 in Vancouver, Canada.
This opportunity will come for Aldana after Julianna Peña’s injury, so now she will seek the 135-pound title against one of the most dangerous rivals in the Octagon.
Irene has won four of her last five bouts -three of them by knockout- and is one of the bantamweight fighters with the most finishing power.
In his professional record he has a mark of 14-6, with eight wins by knockouts and is in 5th place in the ranking of the division.
His last fight was in September 2022 after defeating the American Macy Chiasson by knockout.
For her part, Amanda Nunes will seek to defend the belt for first time in her second stage as 135-pound champion after defeating Julianna Peña in a rematch in July 2022.
It is worth mentioning that Mexico already has Brandon Moreno, Yair Rodríguez and Alex Grasso on its list of champions, so Irene Aldana will look for the feat in the UFC.
