METU Alumni Association accepted the Anti-Violence and Harassment Policy Document

METU Alumni Association (ODTÜ MD) announced that the “Combating Violence and Harassment Policy Document” was adopted against all kinds of violence and harassment, including gender-based violence, at the general assembly held on April 8th. “We are happy to share with the public the rightful pride of being the first mixed association to accept and implement the document, today, the 12th anniversary of the opening of the Istanbul Convention for signature,” the statement said.

METU MD made a written statement on the “Policy Zone for Combating Violence and Harassment”, which was accepted at the general assembly held on April 8. Here is the description:

“The METU Alumni Association, together with all its members and components, has clearly demonstrated its stance against all forms of violence and harassment, including gender-based violence, with the Policy Document for Combating Violence and Harassment, which was approved at the General Assembly held on April 8, 2023. Our Association; aims to provide its members, employees and guests with a safe and dignified environment completely free from violence and harassment, and to promote a zero-tolerance attitude towards all forms of violence and harassment, including third-party violence and harassment, in a gender-sensitive manner. In this context, with the participation of our members and employees, it is aimed to carry out awareness, awareness and training activities against violence and harassment, taking into account domestic violence.

“NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL LEGISLATION WAS BASED ON THE FORMATION OF THE POLICY DOCUMENT”

All possible violence and harassment will be addressed through effective complaints, investigations, referrals, support and redress mechanisms that respect confidentiality and privacy, are impartial and reliable, and protect against retaliation. For a more effective process management; Comprehensive, inclusive and constructive collaborations will be established with public institutions, non-governmental organizations, workers’ and employers’ organizations. Our Policy Document on Combating Violence and Harassment includes relevant international legislation such as the Istanbul Convention, the ILO Convention on Violence and Harassment No. 190, the Convention on the Prevention of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), as well as the Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and the Prevention of Violence Against Women and the Turkish Penal Code. and similar national legislation.
