
Lucknow Super Giants pulled off a thrilling 5-run win over Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday night. At the beginning of the match Lucknow scored 177 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. In response, Mumbai Indians’ innings stopped at 172 runs.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field at the beginning of the match. Losing the toss and batting first, Lucknow lost 3 wickets for 35 runs. However, captain Krunal Pandya and Stoinis brought the team back to the game with a pair of 82 runs from 59 balls in the fourth wicket. Pandya retired injured after scoring 49 off 42 balls.
Playing till the end of the innings at the other end, Stoinis brought Lucknow a fighting collection of 177 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. Stoinis scored an unbeaten 89 off 47 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes. Mumbai’s Australian pacer Jason Behrendorff took 2 wickets.
Two openers Ishan Kishan and captain Rohit Sharma gave Mumbai a 58-ball 90-run start in chasing runs. Although Rohit was stopped for 37 runs off 25 balls, Kishan scored 59 runs off 39 balls with 8 fours and 1 six with a taste of half-century.
Mumbai lost the match by scoring 172 for 5 in 20 overs as the middle-order batsmen failed to play a responsible innings after the departure of the two openers. Mumbai could not get 11 runs to win in the last over. In the end, Australia’s Tim David scored an unbeaten 32 off 19 balls. Lucknow’s Josh Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi took 2 wickets each. Stoinis was man of the match.
Lucknow Super Giants climbed to third place in the table with 15 points in 13 matches. With 14 points from the same number of matches, Mumbai has dropped to fourth place in the table.
