Los Cabos Open confirms Tsitsipás, Norrie and three other top 20 tennis players

There are less than 100 days to go before the 2023 Los Cabos Open begins and this Monday José Antonio Fernández, tournament director, presented a preliminary list of tennis players who will play the seventh edition of the tournament.

Through a press conference in which a new alliance with Oppo was announced, the manager announced that five top 20 players in the ATP ranking will be present in Los Cabos next summer.

The Greek Stéfanos Tsitsipás, who occupies fifth place in the world ranking, stands out as the main figure, so he will be the number one seed in the tournament.

In addition, there will be the presence of Karen Khachanov (12), Cameron Norrie (13), Tommy Paul (17) and Alex de Miñaur (19), current champion of the Mexican Tennis Open. The complete list of the 28 and 16 players who will make up the singles and doubles draw respectively, will be announced on July 4.

In this regard, José Antonio Fernández mentioned in a conversation with Publisport that bringing world-class tennis players reflects the commitment to place Los Cabos as the best ATP 250.

“Of the 38 ATP 250 that there are, we want to position ourselves as the best, a couple of years ago we were ranked third… In this edition we have come to consolidate what is our new home, having the hotel in front gives the players a facility . We are very happy with the quality of players we will have, it will be a great squad. Having five top 20 tennis players is not found in any 250 tournament and that speaks of the commitment we have to finish our cycle in the summer this year, ”he explained.

Likewise, the manager confirmed that the next edition will be the last to be played in the summer, since from 2024 onwards, the tournament will be held at the end of February, days before the Mexican Tennis Open, something that he considers “attractive” for tennis players. .

“He came to stay, he won’t stay any longer in the summer, he will be number 8 on the tour. One of the advantages of changing it will be the climate, which is much friendlier and will be beneficial for fans and tennis players. Los Cabos and Acapulco will compete against Doha and Dubai and we want to position ourselves in a swing prior to the Indian Wells and Miami Open, that is attractive for tennis players due to its proximity, players are looking for that, the ease of planning their calendar and avoiding burnout, it is where we have value. We have two tournaments in two great destinations and to be able to have this will be wonderful”.

Regarding the presence of the Mexicans in the ATP 250, José Antonio Fernández announced that Rodrigo Pacheco will most likely obtain a will card to compete in the main draw, highlighting his commitment to the growth of tennis in the country.

“As always we will support the Mexicans, we will give a will card and it will surely be Rodrigo, he has been playing and is consolidating more and more. We always work to give windows of growth to Mexican players, we are with the academies, we just started with the Challengers, so we are doing all this work without a doubt for the growth of Mexican tennis, ”he declared.
