May 14 Presidential and General Elections were followed with interest all over the world. According to Ekathimerini’s news, Le Monde, one of France’s world-renowned newspapers, included the Greek islands in the Aegean on the map of Turkey, in the map they used in their news about the election that went to the second round.
FOREIGN MINISTER AND AMBASSADOR IN PARIS INTRODUCED
When this mistake made by Le Monde was noticed in Greece, a small-scale crisis took place in the country. After the reactions from the public, the government officials put their foreign affairs into action. The Greek Ambassador to Paris, Dimitrios Zevelakis, contacted Le Monde at the instruction of Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias.
Ambassador Zevelakis’ request that the map in question be deleted and not published again was welcomed by Le Monde. The newspaper removed the post shortly after the Ambassador’s request.
