The Turkevi building, where Turkey’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations and the Consulate General of New York are located, and where Turkish citizens vote for the Presidency, was attacked on 22 May. A person who came with an iron crowbar broke the windows of the building and fled.
CAUGHT BY ATTACK OPERATION
In the investigation launched after the incident, it was determined that the suspect was Recep Akbıyık, registered to the Giresun population. Akbıyık was caught as a result of the operation of the US police.

Addressing the US authorities after the incident, President Erdoğan called for the attacker to be found. Erdogan said the following: “They broke the windows of the Turkish House. You know, you were a democrat. Aren’t we going to say to the officials of the United States from here, let’s see, you need to find this terrorist immediately, you need to do what is necessary. I wonder if a similar situation were in Turkey. How will you look at this? You need to find this terrorist who broke the windows of the Turkish House with a crowbar. We are ready to do whatever is necessary.”
WINDOWS DAMAGED
Reyhan Özgür, Consul General of Turkey in New York, stated that 12 windows, including 2 windows of the consulate door and 10 facade windows, were damaged as a result of the attack. He left behind the iron crowbar he used in the attack and walked away. We informed the local authorities that the perpetrator is expected to be identified and caught. “

On the other hand, it was learned that the criminal file of Recep Akbıyık in Turkey was bloated. It was stated that the suspect had a criminal record due to “injury, threat and possession of drugs” in Turkey, where he debuted last year.
