Karim Boudiaf: from Gennevilliers to the World Cup in Qatar, who is the Frenchman?

He will have the honors of the opening match of the World Cup. Karim Boudiaf, defender, is one of the naturalized players playing in the national team of Qatar and who will play the World Cup at home. The player, unnoticed until this World Cup, is nevertheless one of the key links in the selection with 85 selections.

“It’s a dream, especially to play her here. I arrived in Qatar super young, I was only 18. I joined the team in 2014. At first, I didn’t think about it too much. Then more the years passed, and I was still in the team. And there, we come to the end” he explained to West France a few days ago.

What is the origin of Karim Boudiaf?

Born to an Algerian father and a Moroccan mother, Karim Boudiaf was born on September 16, 1990 in Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine, France).

Why did Karim Boudiaf take Qatari nationality?

In an interview with SoFootthe French defender explained his choice to become a Qatari citizen since 2013. “At Nancy, I was not a professional. And I had the impression that the club would not offer me a contract. I had this opportunity to sign for Lekhwiya (which will become Al-Duhail, Editor’s note), one of the best clubs in Qatar, where I was offered to go pro. I went there for several days, the time to visit, to get an idea. When I came back, I talked about it with my parents, my family, friends, and I accepted. For me, it was better to go to Qatar, with a good project, than to wait in France, without having the certainty of becoming a professional. I was right to make this choice. The project was to evolve in the local Ligue 1, and to obtain, after five years, Qatari nationality, to integrate, of course according to my performances, the national team, in particular with a view to the 2022 World Cup. I would have been stupid to refuse!
