The Mexican Baseball League lives a historic event with the debut of Julissa Iriarte as umpire in a regular season game.
The 25-year-old from Sinaloa took action in the LMB in the first game of the series that will take place from May 9 to 11 in the series in which the Olmecas de Tabasco will visit the Leones de Yucatán in the city of Mérida.

“Honestly, I didn’t expect it. I thought the call was to see how we were working here in the Tabasco League. I’m speechless. I didn’t believe it. I had to give my cell phone to my colleagues so they could stop it, I couldn’t hold it, I couldn’t talk,” said Iriarte upon receiving the important news.
This Tuesday he will debut as a bases umpire and on Thursday he will deliver justice for the first time in this league behind home plate.
“The biggest sacrifice I have made to get to where I am today is leaving my family. To my daughter, my parents and my brothers”, commented the native of El Fuerte.
The presentation of Iriarte Félix occurs in the middle of the LMB campaign named Out a las Barreras, which began on May 5 and will end on May 14.
“I never imagined that I was going to be an umpire. I’ve been playing softball for many years, it’s my favorite hobby. Three years ago a colleague invited me to the LMB umpire preseason, I really liked this profession and I wanted to continue doing it and go as far as possible, ”he added.
