José Gomes resigns as coach of Ponferradina, Malaguista’s next rival

The Portuguese coach jose gomes announced at the conclusion of this Saturday’s match against Real Oviedo (1-1) that he has submitted his resignation to the president of the ponferradinaJose Fernandez Nieto. The set of Berciano is, precisely, Málaga CF’s next rival, next Saturday at La Rosaleda.

Gomes, who arrived at the Berciano team this season as a substitute for Jon Perez Bolowho had led Deportiva the four previous seasons, confirmed that he will only receive the corresponding part of his contract until his last day of work despite having two years of permanence.

The Matosinhos coach pointed out that “out of love and respect” for Ponferradina and its fans, “since he came with a great illusion, apart from the quality that the players have to fight for promotion places, The time has come to leave the project in other hands and for a coach to come with more luck or with another proposal“.

The Portuguese coach, who was living his third stage in Spanish football after an equally ephemeral one in Malaga -as an assistant- and in charge of Almería, where he was dismissed, said that he takes the club “in his heart, leaving more friends behind five months than in other teams in four years”.

“You have to do things like that in life and look in the mirror without shame of what I see and that’s how I am in life,” he said, and assured that his share of responsibility is comparable to that of a piece of a cake “where there is for everyone”.

“I have eaten mine, that’s why I go out with a clear conscience because I have helped the players as best as possible, but football is a game with factors that intervene in performance,” he said.

Gomes denied that his decision had been influenced the screams of the fans in the final stretch of the clash this Saturday asking for his resignation.

In relation to what was his last game in charge of Deportiva, he stated that, from his point of view, the game against Real Oviedo was “controlled and his goal came from a missed opportunity, but he shot very little on goal and despite if they are superior like that it is impossible to score, but for what they did they didn’t deserve to lose”.

The Portuguese coach leaves Ponferradina out of the relegation places -in the absence of the conclusion of the day- with 17 points in sixteen games played, with four wins, five draws and seven losses, in addition to the elimination in the Copa del Rey in the first round against Guadalajara.
