In terms of videos, one of the most common content today, Windows incorporated the Clipchamp app a long time ago, a Windows Movie Maker replacement focused on the cloud and that, in practice, allows you to edit video for free and without complications. And if we talk about recording video in Windows 11, one more is added to the options that we already had available.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 have Xbox Game Bar, a small floating bar designed for the most gamers. And among other options, it is used to take screenshots and to record small video clips of our plays. You record the video with this bar and then edit it with Clipchamp. Two apps that come by default in Windows.
And with the latest updates, you now have an extra method to record video in windows 11. Precisely, with one of the applications that has changed the most in recent years: the Snipping Tool.
Screenshots with Crops
The Snipping Tool was long overdue. For take screenshots in windows you had to press the key Print Screenmissing in many current keyboards, and then paste the content into microsoft paint or another image editing app. But if you wanted to edit it, you needed an additional app. Until the Snipping Tool came along with Windows 7. In English, snip tool. And now you can also record video in Windows 11.
Currently, the Snipping Tool allows you to take screenshots, edit them, save them and/or share them. On the one hand, you can take a full screen capture, of a particular window or of the space that you delimit manually. On the other hand, you can take the captures with a 3, 5 or 10 second countdown.
To take a screenshot you just have to press the keys Windows + Shift + S. This opens the app or Snipping Tool. Even though it’s closed. A floating bar will appear at the top of the screen. Choose the type of capture: rectangular, free form, window or full screen mode.
When you capture, a floating window will appear showing the preview. By clicking on it, you will be able to edit it from the Snipping Tool. Specifically, you can write or draw ontrim the edges and finally save the result.




Record video in Windows 11 with Clipping
If you have Windows 11 up to date, you will see that the Snipping Tool incorporates a new icon in its main window. Next to the New button you will see two icons: a photo camera and a video camera. So you can switch between take screenshots in image format and record video without installing an additional application.
For record video in windows 11 with the Snipping Tool:
- open the app cuts. From the Start menu or with the keys Windows + Shift + S
- Click on the icon Engrave.
- Click on New.
- A floating bar will appear with the Start button, a timestamp, and an X.
- outline with mouse what part of the screen do you want to record.
- Then click Start to start recording.
- after a countdown three seconds, you will see how the timestamp advances.
- You can pause the recording, stop it and/or delete it (trash can icon).
- When you’re done, the video will appear in the Snipping Tool.
- For now, you can only play it, save it in MP4 and/or share it.




At the moment, the function of recording video is very simple. But enough to later edit the clips you record with Clipchamp, another official app that also comes with installed by default with Windowsand what is feature-packed video editing. And to see the video function in the Snipping Tool you must have installedat least the Windows 11 22H2 update. Something that will not be a problem if you usually have Windows updated with some frequency.
