IND vs NZ T20 Series: ‘This is my team…’, Hardik Pandya broke silence on Sanju Samson not getting a chance

In the T20 series against New Zealand, India won a resounding 1-0. In this T20 series, star players like Sanju Samson and Umran Malik were expected to be in the playing XI. But these hopes remained grounded. Samson and Umran Malik did not get a chance to play in both the matches. Too many questions have been raised about not including Samson in the playing-11.

Now Hardik Pandya has also broken the silence regarding players like Sanju Samson and Umran Malik. Hardik Pandya, who was the captain of the Indian team in this T20 series, said that those who did not get the opportunity will definitely get opportunities in the coming times. Hardik believes that what is being said outside does not matter to him.

I don’t change much: Hardik

Hardik Pandya said in the press conference, ‘First of all, who is saying what outside does not matter at this level. This is my team, the coach and I will play whatever side we want and whatever side we want. There is a lot of time, everyone will get a chance and when they get a chance, they will get a long one. If there would have been a bigger series, more matches, then obviously there would have been more opportunities. It was a short series. I do not believe in much change and will not do so in the future.

Hardik Pandya says, ‘Like I wanted a six bowling option and that thing has come in this tour. Like Deepak Hooda has bowled. Little by little, if such batsmen keep chipping, then you will have many opportunities to surprise the opposition team by using new bowlers.

He further said, ‘To be honest, I keep things simple. Whether I captain in a match or in a series, I will lead the team in my own way. Whenever I was given a chance, I played cricket as I know it. This is Hardik Pandya’s second T20 series win as captain. Earlier, under his leadership, India defeated Ireland 2-0 in the month of June.

Only 17 runs came off the bat of Rishabh Pant

In the T20 series against New Zealand, instead of wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson, a player like Rishabh Pant was given importance in the playing-11, who flopped in both innings with the bat. Pant was able to score only six runs in the second T20 match. After that, in the last T20 match in Napier, only 11 runs came out of his bat. Samson played his last T20 match on the Windies tour, since then he is waiting for the opportunity.

Sanju got a chance to play only 26 matches

Sanju has got very few opportunities in recent times. Earlier, Samson did not get a place in the team for the T20 series against Australia and South Africa. After that, players like Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were preferred over Sanju Samson for the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. Sanju Samson has so far scored 296 runs in 16 T20 Internationals for India at an average of 21.14 and a strike rate of 135.15. On the other hand, in ODIs, Sanju has 294 runs at an average of 73.50.
